Domus Dei y Domus Eclesiae: El edificio Iglesia orientado
Domus ecclesiae and domus dei: The orientated church building
Muñoz Rodríguez, Rubén
The domus ecclesia, the “house of the Church”, has its origins in the clandestine domestic meetings of the primitive church. If we understand the Greek term ekklesia as the “convened assembly”, the church building becomes the house where the assembly meet. It finds a parallel with the Jewish synagogue, but its equivalence is to be found in that other sacred Hebrew building, the Temple in Jerusalem; throughout its historical development and existence the church building was conceived as the domus Dei, the “house of God”. (Hani, 1983: 22-23; Ratzinger, 2006:53-57)Within the liturgical movement that preceded the Second Vatican Council reform (1962-65), note should be taken of the experiences developed by Romano Guardini with groups from the German Catholic “Quickborn” youth movement in the 1920s and 30s. Guardini’s experiments with the architect Rudolf Schwarz in the Hall of Armed Knights of Rothenfels Castle (1928) bear witness to the flourishing of a new architectural-liturgical awareness, placing emphasis on the assembly or congregation itself, proposing a living participation by the ecclesiastic community, the Corpus Christi mysticum.

Pomp, ceremony and ritual in Chiloé
Pompa, ceremonia y rito en Chiloé
Cerda Brintrup, Gonzalo
Chiloé’s traditional culture is extraordinarily rich in ritual. This is expressed in religious celebrations, popular festivities, the minga2-a specific kind of collective work that brings together the community- with its associated feasting and festivity, ceremonial processions and burials. This text is specifically concerned with these latter two activities, seeking to emphasise the roots and significance of the religious procession a nd t he c entral r ole p layed b y t he funeral ceremony and burial in Chiloé’s culture. The unique characteristics of place, architecture and imagery displayed by both these rites have contributed to the region’s cultural, urban and architectural identity.

The Chollín collective: Archetype of the promenade architectural in Chile
Fuentes Hernández, Pablo
Mayorga Marnich, Elena
Within the context of economic recovery in the 1940s in Chile, the coalmining industry tried out new forms of housing. The worn-out model of the industrial city that imposed a housing system reduced to repeated blocks with minimal sanitary installations was replaced by buildings that tested out new architectural ideas. This time the solution was tested on a large scale, incorporating new social objectives.

Urban protophenomenon. Analytical rudiments for a phenomenological approach to the study of the perception of people in urban space
Araneda, Claudio
Goethe – father of protophenomenology, phenomenology’s missing link and tutelary genius of this research– believed that “hypotheses are lullabies with which the teacher soothes his pupils to sleep”. (Del Solar, 1993). Indeed, for Goethe the key issue in science was always, above all, the establishment of a reverent and contemplative relationship with a clearly differentiated object of study. Taking this route – which as well as eliminating all speculation turns the hypothesis into a relatively redundant research tool – Goethe inaugurated the science of primordial phenomena or protophenomena, an achievement the profound consequences of which are only recently being fully and objectively assessed by the modern scientific establishment.
