Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The article is original and unpublished, and is the result of research.
  • The article and annexed material comply with ethical principles and current copyright laws, as well as with the stylistic and bibliographic requirements summarized in the Guidelines for Authors, which are available in About the Journal.
  • The article has not been published previously. Neither is it a fragment, duplicate or redundant publication, nor has it been submitted simultaneously to another journal (or an explanation has been provided in the Comments to the Editor section).
  • The article has an Introduction, Theoretical Framework, Case Study (where applicable), Methodology, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliographical References. It also includes its graphic material (figures and/or tables) in independent files, as described in the Guidelines for Authors.
  • The bibliographic reference, it must reference all those cited throughout the text, including tables and/or image sources, it must have at least 15 references and one-third of the references must be from publications less than or equal to 5 years old.
    All referenced articles must include the DOI if they have one or a URL and exclusively follow the APA standards - 7th edition.
  • The article does not present a professional or personal, past or present conflict of interest (if one does exist, the possible relationships that may bias the research must be expressly indicated and should also be clarified in the submitted article).
  • The file is sent in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word or RTF format; is editable; and is no larger than 2MB in size.
  • All the tables and/or figures are appropriately numbered, titled and/or captioned and their source is indicated, whether they come from open format files, they were created by the authors, or the authors of this article have permission from the original authors of the graphic material to use the table/figure.
  • The authors accept that receipt of the article by the publisher does not mean that it will be published
  • The authors must complete and attach the Certificate of Authorship (download), when submitting the article.

Author Guidelines

Articles may be submitted in Spanish, Portuguese, or English and must include an abstract in all the aforementioned languages. The authors of the article should be limited to a maximum of 3.

Each submitted text must present the following sections: Introduction, Theoretical Framework, Case Study (when applicable), Methodology, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliographic References. Photographs, graphics, plans, and/or maps that allow a greater understanding of the text should be included as long as they comply with the specific conditions for these cases, discussed later.

The submission, review, and editorial process for publishing texts in this journal is free of charge for authors.

1. TITLE

This must be concise and informative, not exceed ten words, must contain the geographic reference of the country of investigation, and include translations into the other two languages (Spanish, English, and Portuguese).

2. ABSTRACT

The abstract will contain a maximum of 300 words and a minimum of 150 (in Spanish); it must also incorporate translations into languages other than the original (Spanish/English/Portuguese). It should frame the problem and summarize the work's objectives, the most relevant results, and conclusions, emphasizing the text's original contributions.

2.1. KEYWORDS

It must include five keywords. They should not be part of the title of the manuscript. Terms from Architecture/Urbanism should be selected from the page Vitruvian Controlled Vocabulary from the Network of Architecture, Art, Design, and Urbanism Libraries. Terms from other disciplines can be chosen from the UNESCO Thesaurus.

3. TEXT

The articles must be written in Spanish, English, or Portuguese, maintaining a letter-size page format, 2.5 cm margins on all sides, Arial Narrow font, size 12, justified, without indentation, simple line spacing, and a single space between paragraphs. The content of the manuscript may not be bold or underlined. Its maximum length cannot exceed 5,000 words, including references, footnotes, bibliography, and image/table captions.

Its content should be structured according to the sections Introduction, Theoretical Framework, Case Study (where applicable), Methodology, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliographic References, which are specified and described in the template 

A grammatical style will be used according to scientific and academic publications, paying particular attention to spelling and punctuation.

4. FIGURES

The figures accompanying the article must be a minimum of 8 (eight) and a maximum of 12 (twelve); they must be of the quality described in point 4.1 and have the corresponding permissions, if not proprietary. Strict compliance with the requirements outlined must be followed as this conditions the continuity of the article’s review process. Arquitecturas del Sur reserves the right not to publish images that do not meet this requirement or to request new ones.

All figures (images, maps, and/or photographs) will be called "Figure,” will be listed correlatively with Arabic numerals, must be cited inside the text in the place that corresponds, alluding to them according to the following example:

“Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat (Figure 2). Duis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit in voluptate velit esse cillum dolore eu fugiat nulla pariatur.”

4.1. HOW TO SUBMIT IMAGES

Each figure must be attached independently in a digital file, in JPG or TIFF format, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi and 20 cm wide on its smaller side; it must be called a figure and have its corresponding correlative number (Figure X)

5. TABLES

Tables, if necessary, include additional information that expands upon the content of the text in the form of data tables or statistical tables. If used, they should be cited within the text as "Table,” using correlative Arabic numeration, be included in the line of the text, in the corresponding place, with its table footer and source of information, differentiating them from the figures and alluding to them according to the following example:

Tables will only be accepted in editable format using the extensions.doc/.docx/.xls/.xlsx. They will not be accepted in PDF, PPT, JPG, or TIFF format.

6. CITATIONS AND BIBLIOGRAPHIC REFERENCES

6.1. CITATIONS

Less than 40 words

  • These should be within the text, between quotation marks, and cite the author(s). If there are three or more authors, then the following is used (First author surname et al., year, p. x)

More than 40 words

  • They must be in a separate block with an indentation of 1 cm and cited (First author surname et al., year, p. x)

A written report from an agency's website

  • First quote in the text

6.2. BIBLIOGRAPHIC REFERENCES

  • It must reference all those cited throughout the text, including tables and/or image sources.
