Analysis of Fear predictors and Academic Performance of university students: the multi-cultural context in the city of Ceuta
Main Article Content
Abstract
The main objective of this paper is to
identify the Fear predictors and Academic
Performance of university students in Ceuta, Spain.
In order to make this possible, 225 participants who
were studying in four different levels in the Faculty of
Education and Humanities were included. 76.4%
were female and 23.6% were male, among them,
27.1% were Muslims and 72.9%, Christians. In order
to collect the information, Matesanz’s (2006) Fear
Survey Schedule (FSS) adapted version, as well as
the students’ grades as a reference for academic
performance were used. The results show low levels
in Fear and medium-high levels in Academic
Performance. In the latter, Age and Fear act as
predictors; and also Culture, that works as a
predictor in several aspects. Fear’s most important
predictor is Gender. A statistically significant relation
between Fear and Total Academic Performance was
found, although not present in any aspect in
particular.
