Submissions

Author Guidelines

Hábitat Sustentable publishes a single section dedicated to research articles and review articles in its electronic editions. When submitting manuscripts, authors must consider the following formal and content standards:

1. General rules

• Articles must only be submitted through the OJS website (https://revistas.ubiobio.cl/index.php/RHS/login). Articles sent by email will not be accepted.
• Submission, review, and processing of texts in Hábitat Sustentable is free of charge for the authors.
• Manuscripts can be sent in Spanish, English, or Portuguese. However, the title, summary, and keywords in Spanish, English, and Portuguese must be included.
• The HS Template must be used to prepare the manuscript (click to download). Read the instructions and Authors Guidelines provided beforehand.
• The Editor-in-chief will initially evaluate all contributions to determine the suitability of the article for the journal, supervising that it has original results from scientific research, it is relevant to the journal’s editorial line, it complies with basic formal standards for submission, and the value of its scientific contribution.
• The Editor-in-chief, after the preliminary selection, will send the article to two peer reviewers, who, based on a “double-blind” review that maintains the anonymity of the author and the reviewers, will rule on its scientific and academic quality, as well as its merit to be published.
• The Editor, following the reviews made by the peer reviewers, will decide whether the article is Publishable, Publishable with Modifications, or is Not Publishable. The author will be informed of the decision and the comments made by the reviewers.
• If the article requires Publishable with Modifications, the author must make the requested modifications within a period defined by the editor, attaching a response document to the observations, using the Response to Observations Template (click to download). The editor has the power to reject the article in this instance, if the requested requirements are not met.
• The Editor’s decision is final regarding the acceptance or rejection of articles.
• Rejected articles may not be resubmitted.

2. Format, Length, and Presentation.

Manuscripts must be sent in Word format in Spanish, English, or Portuguese, and must weigh a maximum of 8 MB. The HS Template must be used (click to download), and the maximum length of the text will be 5,000 words including bibliographic references. Research Articles must contain at least the following sections: Introduction, methodology, results and discussion, conclusions, and bibliographic references. Review Articles are flexible in structure.

3. Authorship

Hábitat Sustentable is a journal with a “double-blind” review, therefore, the authors must ensure that the files sent maintain anonymity, not including names or data in the documents, their properties, acknowledgments, or sources of financing.

Any reference to the authors must be eliminated in the manuscript. This information must be included in the metadata of the digital platform (OJS) at the time of submission, providing the ORCID of each author. Once the editorial process has started, inclusions of authors will not be accepted, except for justified exceptions. The submission must include the Authors Statement signed by all authors (click to download).

Authorship must be limited to those who have contributed substantially to the work. Articles with more than one author must declare in the Authors Statement the contribution of each participant using the CRediT taxonomy. Once the article is accepted for publication, a short paragraph will be added to the document following the CRediT taxonomy specifying individual contributions.

4. First and second page of the manuscript

The first page of the manuscript must include the title in Spanish, English, and Portuguese (maximum 15 words). On the second page, the abstract must be included in Spanish, English, and Portuguese (maximum 150 words), and between 3 and 4 keywords (chosen from the Table of Subjects found at https://revistas.ubiobio.cl/index.php/RHS/tabladematerias). The abstract must frame the problem, summarize the objectives of the work, the methodology used, and the most relevant results and conclusions, emphasizing the original contributions. Keywords must be separated from each other by a comma, the first one capitalized.

5. Sections and Subsections

There will be three levels of hierarchy. The first level, in capital letters without numbering (Capital Letter, Justified, Bold, Size 15, Avenir Next LT Pro Font, Back Spacing), must be used for the following sections: introduction, methodology, results, discussions, conclusions, and bibliographic references. The second level, without numbering and in bold (Capital Letter, Justified, Bold, Size 10, Avenir Next LT Pro Font, Back Spacing), can be used to give a more specific title to the previous sections or divide them into sections. The third level, bold and lowercase (Lowercase, Justified, Bold, Size 10, Avenir Next LT Pro Font, Backspacing), can be used to identify subsections.

6. In-text citations

The manuscript must acknowledge the intellectual property of others by referencing their ideas through citations in (author, year) format. From three authors, the et al. format is used. (author et al., year). For direct quotation from texts by other authors, when less than 40 words, must be presented in quotation marks, citing the page (author, year: page). “Förbereda pizza deg är lätt och ganska roligt. All quotes over 40 words must be in a separate block with a 1 cm indentation, citing the page.

Authors must watch against excessive self-citation in bibliographic references. It is suggested that this percentage does not exceed 15%, with a maximum of 4 self-citations.

7. Figures

All graphs, maps, and photographs will be called figures. They will be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.) inside the text in the corresponding place. Below each figure, Figure X will be indicated, and then the title along with the source of the information, all in lowercase. All figures and tables must be cited in the main text as Figure 1, Table 1, etc.

For figures (Graphs) made in programs such as Excel, the titles generated by the program by default and the frame will be removed, with the only title of the figure appearing in the text underneath.

8. Tables

Tables include additional information that expands upon what is said in the text, such as data or statistics. They will be listed consecutively with Arabic numerals inside the text in the corresponding place, referring to them as follows: (Table 1). Above each table, the Table No. will be indicated and then the title along with the source of the information, all in lowercase letters. Tables will NOT be accepted in image format.

9. Bibliographic References

Bibliographic references must be presented following APA standards. The list must include, exclusively and in full, the bibliographic references cited in the text or the sources of the graphic content (if applicable). They must be arranged in alphabetical order, for each author in chronological order from oldest to most recent and the surnames must be written in capital letters, followed by the initials of the authors. The article must have a minimum of 20 references, at least 40% must be from the last 5 years old. Articles must include the DOI if they have one.

This section must include all the references cited throughout the text. It must have a minimum of 20 references, of which at least 40% must be from the last 5 years old, including references from articles from internationally recognized indexed journals (WOS-ISI, SCOPUS, SCiELO, etc.). It is suggested that a minimum of 70% are scientific articles in indexed catalogs. Furthermore, authors must watch against excessive self-citation in bibliographic references. It is suggested that this percentage does not exceed 15% with a maximum of 4 self-citations.

Citations and bibliographic references will conform to APA editorial standards. The list must include, exclusively and in full, the bibliographic references cited in the text or the sources of the graphic content (if applicable), they must be in alphabetical order, and the surnames must be written, followed by the initials of the author’s names. If it is an article, its DOI or URL must be included.

We recommend preparing references with bibliography software, such as Zotero or Mendeley, to avoid typing errors and duplicate references.

10. Acceptance

Authors of those manuscripts that are accepted for publication will have to send figures as separate JPG image files with a resolution of 1200 px on the short side and 300 dpi, and tables in Excel format as additional files.

Once the blind review stage is completed, the acknowledgments and/or sources of financing will be incorporated into the manuscripts using a short paragraph following the CRediT taxonomy specifying individual contributions.
