Analysis of the use of lightshelves in Vitoria-ES (Brazil)
Keywords:
Computer simulation, lightshelves, office room, illuminanceAbstract
Office buildings in the city of Vitoria are being built with an architectural typology that is not appropriate for hot and humid climate, affecting the performance of the users and generating unnecessary energy consumption. Lightshelves can improve the use of natural light inside the office rooms, minimizing the effects of local climate. The objective of this study is to compare the performance of lightshelves in building typologies practiced in the region. For this, two models were developed for a standard room, based on the type found in buildings, through the computer simulation software DIALux; one with internal and external lightshelves and the other with reflective glass. Illuminance levels were analyzed in five calculation points inside the room and the results compared, proving the efficiency of the lightshelves for the uniformity of the light inside the room and to avoid thermal gains and visual discomfort.
