Function and impact of weather files on energy demand simulations
Keywords:
Energy simulation, climate data, weather filesAbstract
Different types of weather files have been developed to be used in energy simulations. Their origin largely depends on weather stations, environmental variables, interpolation algorithms, and the time periods under consideration. Due to this diversity, the question arises as to which are the most suitable for use in housing studies in Chile, particularly in Concepción city. As part of the Fondef project D10I10251 , a comparative analysis is presented of three sources of climate records for Concepción. The first was obtained through the EERE website (U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy). The second was developed using the software Meteonorm, and the last was generated from the information provided by a geodetic observation center (Transportable Integrated Geodetic Observatory or TIGO) located in Concepción. The research showed that differences in the source and method of obtainment of weather data for Concepción, Chile can cause a difference in energy demand of 24,8%, which in this case corresponds to 41,34 kWh/m2.
