Keywords:
accessibility, displacements, urban and regional developmentAbstract
The State of Bahia has a territorial extension similar to some countries which are smaller than Brazil. Therefore, there are important regional disparities that concentrate the economical development and investments in infrastructure in the Metropolitan Region of Salvador. Some regions have low economical and social development indexes, need for infrastructure, and need for public transport services at both local and regional level. The Government of Bahia, through the Secretary of Urban Development, SEDUR, is elaborating a Regional and Municipal Accessibility Plan for the urban centres of the territories of Itaparica, Semiárido Nordeste II y Sisal.
The aim of this article is to review the results of these two studies, disseminating the knowledge about the accessibility conditions of the municipalities that are located in the poorer region of Bahia.
