Abstract

The current Los Carrera Avenue of Concepcion city is one of the most important roads of the city since the eighteenth century. Its specificity as an urban corridor, not only appears to be linked to its potential vehicular connection in one direction or another, but also to the formation of one of the most important spaces in terms of function, width, height and tension. Besides, its location provides a thread that weaves with other roads that allows it to participate in a metropolitan road structure system.

This article deals with this avenue, which during the twentieth century located a significant amount of housing projects created under the ideals of functionalist urbanism and certain state institutions that promoted the formation of an ideal image of the modern city.
