Abstract

From an urban perspective, the development of socio-economic patterns is radically transforming the way of shaping, managing and living in tourist settlements that represents a new scenario for the history of urbanism. This article reviews some ideas of different tourist imagery that influence current shaping of cities, suggesting that the economic consolidation of tourism is causing that the occupation of the territory, the configuration of habitable spaces, and the organization of citizens’ activities are carried out by giving priority to the visitants’ necessities and aspirations (infrastructure, equipment and other tourist services) over those determined by the socio-economical and cultural behaviour of the local inhabitants.
