This paper reviews two methodological experiences that analyse the potential development of specific urbanterritorial systems. The paper was presented at the V International Seminar-Workshop of the Mexican Network of Cities towards Sustainability that took place in Querétaro in October 2004.
The Ministry of Planning and Cooperation of Chile has undertaken various studies related to regional competitiveness oriented to predict and evaluate the positive and negative impact of the recent Free Trade Agreements between Chile and the European Commission, USA and Korea, as well as the future agreement with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) countries. In terms of urban competitiveness, the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism and the Regional Governments of Antofagasta, Bio-Bio, Valparaiso and Santiago are carrying out interesting studies and projects as part of the program “Cities for the Bicentenary”.
