El patrimonio industrial urbano de Madrid
Keywords:
heritage, industrial evolution, industrial developmentAbstract
This article analyses the importance of the industrial heritage of Madrid from a geographical as well as historical point of view that explains the evolution of industrialisation in the city from the nineteenth century until nowadays, including the base stones of the pre-industrial manufacturers of the eighteenth century. As a consequence of this development, there is an industrial heritage that deserves to be appreciated for its cultural value and potential for renovation, although scarce if compared to other cities with intense industrialisation. The article reviews the most significant cases of pre-industrial heritage, of the disappeared industrial heritage and of that segment that has been preserved and renovated for new uses as a legacy of the industrial past of the city.
