Abstract

In recent years, the methodologies used in urban and transport planning have undergone an evolution that deserves to be reviewed, as they have influenced the way to implement spatial planning. Indeed, the methodologies in the last quarter century have had different epistemological roots depending on their disciplinary approaches, available technologies and specific needs to respond to the problems identified in modern cities.

This article aims to summarize the methodological approaches and analyze their content in order to establish a theoretical framework for understanding the way we currently do planning.
