Abstract

This paper describes the hegemony of the real estate development associated with the environmental deterioration in the municipality of Huixquilucan. The perspective was constructed from documentary review, field work, and information obtained from an online forum. The results confirm that real estate development in areas of natural reserve is the result of the ineffectiveness of the policy of regulation of the use of urban land, public and private investments, the offering of a specialized group of real estate and the potential demand of population with purchasing power, and the biophysical variables, the instability of the land and environmental degradation are placed as externalities of urban model private high profitability. This situation calls for containment measures based on principles of territorial planning and the participation of the different social sectors, ensuring transparency and the application of sanctions in the field of ecological and environmental protection, in order to maintain the long-term habitability conditions.
