The ruralitos of zemita: School news program at a multigrade rural school
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper presents an educational experience developed with first- and second-grade students at Escuela Zemita, a public, rural, multigrade school in the municipality of Ñiquén. As part of the “Los Ruralitos de Zemita” project, a school news program lasting 10 to 15 minutes per broadcast was implemented on a biweekly basis, in line with the Institutional Educational Project and incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) as a framework for script ideation and drafting, accessibility (subtitles), and the musical creation of bumpers and logos. The production was supported by low-cost infrastructure, while teachers developed skills in chroma, microphones, and audiovisual editing with AI support. The experience is based on media and information literacy, Universal Design for Learning 3.0, project-based learning, and literature on audiovisual production and digital narratives in primary school. Progress is reported in oral skills, participation, collaboration, and rural identity, and challenges, implications, and projections are discussed.
