Abstract

People with intellectual disabilities may present challenging behaviors altering the family dynamics, being relevant to investigate the role and support actions of parents. The purpose was to conduct an article review study addressing the positive behavioral support strategies used by parents of children with intellectual disabilities. The method was a descriptive analysis of systematic review type, under the technique of observation and analysis of the literature, in the ERIC, Scopus and SciELO databases, published between 2002 and 2024. A total of 155 articles were collected according to the thematic, and 8 of these were finally selected. The results indicate that the studies have been published mostly in 2019 and in the USA, their methodology is qualitative and the techniques used are mainly scales. The conclusion drawn from the studies is that parents of children with intellectual disabilities who participate in behavioral support programs manage to improve their children's problem behaviors and reduce family stress.
